Susanna’s latest news

21.04.2008

Throughout the beginning of the year, Susanna has been focusing on treating her back. The continued heavy exercise prolonged the pain in the hip flexors, lower back and buttocks, and the symptoms could not be relieved. The doctor diagnosed a protrusion of the intervertebral disk, and Susanna was forced to a total rest and withdrew from the ice as ordered by the doctor. For two months, Susanna replaced her normal exercise with long walks, water running and a variety of back exercises. She noticed that after seven years of Championship-level competing, her body definitely needed a rest.

- I started on the ice little by little again after a two-month break. The situation is better now. I still have to wait in expectation how my back will react when the amount of exercise grows. I know that the symptoms in my back will be there for the rest of my life, even without physical exertion. Yet I feel confident, Susanna says smiling.

Susanna was also able to see positive aspects in the interrupted season. She was able to dedicate more time to her studies in textile design during the period with lighter training. It was also a pleasure for her to learn and try new, replacing forms of exercise.

- Now that I’ve had problems and I haven’t been able to take doing things for granted, my main thought has been to get back to training. Now I just hope that I’ll be able to reach my level again, and even get higher than I was before my injury, Susanna says.
